Eagles Boys Cross Country Teams Break School Records at the NCHSAA East 4A Regional Meet

Ladies have best finish in 3 Years

The Boy’s and Girl’s Cross Country teams set school records at the 2010 NCHSAA East Regional Championships held at Wendell Park this past Saturday. The Meet was hosted by East Wake High School on a beautiful course, with ideal racing conditions.

The Boy’s team placed 7 out of 21 teams, the best finish at the Regional Meet in School History. The Eagles also set a school record with 5 runner’s averaging 17:36.36 beating last year’s best time of 18:00.14 by 24 seconds and more impressively 2 years ago were they had a 18:32 Average Time. The Eagles also had 5 Runner’s in the top 50 and Senior Jacob Goyne smashed the previous school record at a Regional Meet by 25 seconds with a 16:35 taking 14th Place and making the 2nd All Regional Team. This was also the 1st Time a Men’s Cross Country Runner has medaled at a Regional Championship Race.

The other Eagles Times and Places were: 40th Cole Carter 17:36, 43rd Rylee Smith breaking the previous freshmen record of 18:06 with a 17:40. 49th Chris Williams 18:04 (Personal Best), 50th Spencer Dawkins 18:04 (Personal Best), 81st Elijiah Strafford 19:02, and 87th Samuel Darakjy III 19:11.

The Ladies also had a great showing taking 13th out of 20 teams (School Record for number of schools). The Ladies Top 5 posted a average time of 23:26 beating last years average of 24:22. The fastest Lady across the line for the Eagles was 10th Grader Morgan Sanderson. Morgan was 32nd with a time of 20:51 just 5 seconds off her personal best. The rest of the Ladies Times and Places were: 76th Maggie Shibley 22:43, 87th Sarah Burke with a personal best time of 23:43, 102nd Dana DiGioia 24:26, 115th Elizabeth Troutwine 25:27, 121st Bailey Williams 25:46, and 131st Cassie Snow 27:07.
