10/28/09 NCHSAA Playoff Run Ends at Scotland
Our successful season came to an end last night against Scotland High School. The state recognizes us with an 11-7 record but we played in 2 tournaments that actually bring us to 17-7. (Don’t ask the explanation of those tournaments-it’s confusing)
Several matches this season have been plagued by self-induced errors and last night was one of those nights. As a coach, such matches keep you awake at night because you ask yourself-what else could I have done to prepare the team? The height of Scotland led to numerous blocks and we didn’t do our job covering our hitters. Scores 18-25, 17-25, 21-25.
Every year we say good-bye to our seniors and it doesn’t get any easy. This year we say goodbye & thanks to Kelsey Hopper and Amanda Yoworski. A lot of folks have said, losing only 2, that’s good for next year. But these 2 took up a lot of court and gave a tremendous amount of effort to this team. Amanda’s heart and Kelsey’s power will be difficult to replace.
Thanks to everyone that has supported us this year. Coach Stewart showed up last night in Scotland on his way back from the golf playoffs! Many of you have sent messages to the team and I have passed them on and always to the numerous teachers that have worked with the girls when they miss class-Mrs. Stamm, Coach Gale-there are others too. And of course, parents who volunteer EVERYTHING. Thanks everyone and be ready for next year!!!
